This was problem enough,
but by far the most annoying problem was a cracking of the castings,
which occurred intermittently. The magnitude of the problem can
be seen on the badly
affected tree (as indicated by the arrows shown in Figure
2 below). As you can
see, many castings have cracked, have pins or sections
missing or are missing
altogether. In severe cases, castings would fall from the
trees during the washing out and cleaning operation
in a fashion somewhat reminiscent of an overabundance of silicon. |
